RE: Assistance from CCUA Employees
Dear Jeremy:
We had an emergency in the Dudley Branch swamp yesterday. A large excavator we were using to clear
debris and trees from Dudley Branch became stuck in approximately four feet of mud at the swamp
channel. After three hours of failed attempts by our employees, our staff felt we had reached a critical
point with heavy rain forecasted for the evening. With that forecast there was a real possibility we could

lose the excavator under water in its current position with the excavator cab at the water line.

ca We decided our only option left was to call in a heavy-duty wrecker to see it they could extend a cable
and assist in pulling out the unit. We advised CCUA to let them know that we would be working over
their effluent force main running along Shaw Street.They said they would dispatch someone out to the
site.
Before we were able to call for a wrecker, Clay County Utility Authority employees came by with an
employee who had years of previous experience working in swamps with heavy equipment.They
offered his expertise and without hesitation he got to work.To our amazement, after about two hours
of effort he was able to get the unit moving and out of the swamp.
Due to the efforts of CCUA and their employees Tommy Eure and Carl Silcox,the excavator was saved
from possible flooding and a $1,500 cost for emergency heavy duty wrecker service. We owe a big
thanks to CCUA and their employees! We thanked Mr. Eure & Mr. Silcox with gift cards but wanted you
to know the caliber of employees you have on your team as well.
