My name is Cora King, and I am writing this letter to invite you to the 2023 Clay County Steer
show and sale! I am currently a Freshman at Middleburg High school. I decided to further my
passion for agriculture in August of 2022 when I made the decision to raise a steer for the Clay
County Fair Market Steer Program. I got my steer on August 3ist that same day I took part in
his dehorning and castration what an experience that was. A few days later I settled on his name
Clay! I choose this for several reasons first I am born and raised in Clay County second,he is
-a the reddish brown the same color of clay. I quickly formed a bond with him and dedicated
a almost all of my spare time to care for him. My daily tasks include feeding him, cleaning his pen
o along with food and water bowls, making sure he had fresh water, and walking him.Without
= doing these things daily,he would not be able to grow and thrive as he has. I dedicated many
z hours of hard work into this project to get him comfortable around people,properly walking,
and properly setting up.
Although it is many long days spent with my livestock, I wouldn't trade it for anything! I have
learned the true meaning or dedication and perseverance through these projects and will use
these skills for the rest of my life. Throughout these projects I have developed a work ethic that
will be essential for my future successes.
Raising steers for show is no easy task-but it is something I couldn't imagine my life without!
With the profits I make from my steers I am putting it towards my college career. Being a buyer
for my steer will help me fund my future projects and my college career.
